Agia Zoni II: Sunken tanker lifted from the seabed
On 25 November 2017, salvors commenced the recovery operations of the Agia Zoni II tanker which sank on 10 September close to Salamina Island in the Saronic Gulf, Greece. The tanker had settled with her starboard side on the seabed, at a depth of approximately 35 metres. The recovery operations took four days, and on 29 November the wreck was successfully lifted out of the sea using floating cranes, launch boats, tugs and other vessels. IOPC Funds’ surveyors and experts were onsite to monitor the progress of the antipollution aspects of the wreck removal.
