Delegation from Japan Maritime Centre visits the IOPC Funds

On 15 September 2025, the IOPC Funds’ Director, Mr Gaute Sivertsen, welcomed a delegation from the Japan Maritime Center (JMC), led by its Chaiman, Mr Masafumi Shukuri, to the organisation’s offices in London. The meeting, which was also attended by the IOPC Funds’ HNS Project Manager, Gillian Grant, Policy Officer, Yuji Okugawa, and other officials from the JMC and the Embassy of Japan, focused on preparations for the upcoming HNS Convention Seminar, to be hosted by the JMC in Japan on 8 October 2025.

Discussions during the meeting underscored the importance of protecting the maritime environment and the vital role played by 2010 Convention on the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS) by sea in this regard. Mr Shukuri thanked the Director and the HNS Project Manager for confirming their participation in the HNS Seminar.

Both parties expressed their commitment to continuing the excellent cooperation between the IOPC Funds and Japan.

The JMC, established in April 2007. promotes public interest activities related to maritime affairs, carries out research on maritime issues and policy, and operates a maritime library.
