The Director travelled to Ottawa, Canada, from 17–21 September 2022, where he was welcomed by the Head of the Canadian delegation to the IOPC Funds’ meetings of the governing bodies, Mr François Marier, and former Chair of the 1992 Fund Executive Committee and current Chair of the IMO Legal Committee, Ms Gillian Grant.

Mr Sivertsen visited the offices of Transport Canada to meet with the Director General of Marine Policy, Mr Marc-Yves Bertin, Mr Marier and other representatives of the Canadian delegation. They took the opportunity to discuss recent developments affecting the IOPC Funds, including the impact of international sanctions, and also to look ahead to the planned workshop on the 2010 HNS Convention, which Canada is organising in cooperation with the IMO and IOPC Funds Secretariats.

The Administrator of the Canadian Ship-source Oil Pollution Fund (SOPF), Ms Anne Legars (pictured above), also met with Mr Sivertsen to discuss claims handling, general practices of both organisations and other items of mutual interest. This was followed by a discussion and question and answer session with all members of the SOPF Secretariat.

During his visit, the Director was also able to meet with current member of the joint Audit Body, Mr Alfred Popp K.C.
