On 5 May 2017, the Director hosted an informal lunch meeting for the UK-based representatives of States from the Asia-Pacific region.
It was the first to take place since the Secretariat’s relocation to the International Maritime Organization building. Attended by representatives from Member and non-Member States, the meeting provided an opportunity for those attending to discuss and engage informally on various subjects such as the running of Funds’ meetings, oil reporting, the contributions system, incidents and the status of the HNS Convention.
In a welcoming statement, the Director thanked those present for their active participation in the recent sessions of the IOPC Funds’ governing bodies, emphasising that their input was highly appreciated by the Secretariat. He referred to the number of outreach activities that the Funds’ were currently involved in within the Asia-Pacific region, highlighting the Secretariat’s commitment to engaging with States that are considering joining the 1992 Fund as well as those existing Member States who may be in need of training or assistance with implementation, through the delivery of various workshops and conferences.
The Director reminded guests of the Secretariat’s intention to organise a half-day induction course for delegates in September 2017, aimed at providing training on the functioning of the compensation regime and the role of UK-based delegates in the event of an oil spill.
