On 27 June 2013, the Director of the IOPC Funds hosted an informal lunch meeting for the London-based representatives of South American and Caribbean States.
Nineteen guests representing 16 States attended the meeting which provided a valuable opportunity for both Member and non-Member States to visit the Secretariat and learn more about the work of the IOPC Funds and also for the Secretariat to establish and maintain valuable State contacts. The participants had the opportunity to ask questions and to exchange their views on various IOPC Funds-related matters.
In a welcoming statement the Director took the opportunity to refer to the work being carried out by the Secretariat to assist States’ understanding of the regime and to ensure correct and consistent implementation of the compensation regime across Member States. He referred in particular to the recent workshop in Curaçao in March 2013 and the upcoming ROCRAM-led and IMO-funded regional workshop in Colombia in July as well as the RAC/REMPEITC-Caribe-led regional workshop in Barbados in September.
The lunch meeting went very well and attendees were reminded that the next meetings of the IOPC Funds governing bodies would take place from 21-25 October 2013.
