The IOPC Funds is proud to support the first International Day for Women in Maritime today, 18 May 2022.  Established and championed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) following its World Maritime theme for 2019, “Empowering Women in the Maritime Community”, the focus for this year’s event is ‘Training-Visibility-Recognition: Supporting a barrier-free working environment’.  That theme is the focus of discussion at a symposium organised as part of the day’s celebrations.

The IMO has encouraged fellow international organisations to also promote and celebrate this important day, and the IOPC Funds is pleased to actively support this event. The organisation currently has 16 highly qualified, trained and experienced women working within the Funds’ Secretariat of 25 persons, and it is committed to ensuring a culture of diversity and equality is established and maintained within the IOPC Funds going forward.

The IMO has continued to promote the goals embraced by its 2019 World Maritime theme, including developing concrete initiatives on empowering women and advancing gender equality at the Organization and in the wider maritime community.  The IOPC Funds’ Secretariat thanks the IMO for leading this important drive to achieve those goals and will seek to instil its own internal goals for the future benefit of the organisation.
