The IOPC Funds are proud to celebrate International Women’s Day and lends their full support and appreciation to the statement made on behalf of Member States at an IMO meeting last Friday which highlighted the importance of the day and the continuing struggle for women’s rights and gender equality in the maritime sector.

Since the IOPC Funds’ meeting of the governing bodies which was originally due to take place this week from 11–13 March 2020, was unfortunately postponed as a result of the global COVID-19 outbreak, the Director is keen that this important message is still shared within the IOPC Funds’ community and the statement can be read in full here.

The IOPC Funds were pleased to participate in a number of events last year as part of IMO’s 2019 World Maritime Day Theme – “Empowering Women in the Maritime Community” and continue to take positive steps internally within the Secretariat and in cooperation with the governing bodies to safeguard women’s rights and promote initiatives for the equal and fair representation and treatment of women.
