Interspill 2018, the European oil spill conference and exhibition, took place at ExCel London from 13 to 15 March 2018.
Having supported Interspill for many years as a member of the Interspill Committee, the IOPC Funds’ Secretariat was involved in the organisation of the 2018 event, which takes place every three years.
The event was preceded by two training courses on Monday 12 March 2018. The IOPC Funds’ Secretariat, together with the Gard Club on behalf of the International Group of P&I Associations, ran a Claims & Compensation short course which was very well attended by over 30 representatives from both government and industry.
The Director chaired a session on working with governments at the conference and the Secretariat also had a stand at the exhibition, which it shared with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Funds’ stand attracted a large number of visitors seeking further information on the work of the organisation or requesting guidance on the claims process and admissibility criteria.
Overall, Interspill 2018 was a successful event and provided the IOPC Funds with the opportunity both to exchange information and discuss latest developments with existing contacts within the industry but also to establish new contacts and provide information on the international liability and compensation regime among a large and varied audience.
