On 28 November 2019, the IOPC Funds’ Claims Department delivered a one-day training course to a number of new ITOPF technical staff, at the Funds’ headquarters in London.

The Claims team presented on the liability and compensation regime for oil pollution damage resulting from spills of persistent oil from tankers. In particular, the course covered the admissibility criteria of claims for compensation and on costs for clean-up operations, economic losses and environmental damage claims.  The course also focused on the claim procedures in place and the system used for handling claims.

The course was a welcome opportunity to meet new ITOPF staff members who may be called upon to assist the IOPC Funds by giving technical advice after an incident and discuss procedures in assessing claims in the event of such an incident.
