IOPC Funds holds Induction Course for 1992 Fund Member States
On 3 November 2025, the IOPC Funds held an Induction Course for 1992 Fund Member States at the organisation’s headquarters in London.
IOPC Funds Director, Gaute Sivertsen, welcomed participants to the course, which takes place every year during the afternoon prior to regular sessions of the governing bodies.
Various members of the Secretariat took participants through an overview of the role and structure of the IOPC Funds, the international liability and compensation regime for oil pollution damage and the responsibilities of Member State delegations during sessions of the organisation’s governing bodies. Other aspects of the course included preparations for meetings, the role of delegates during an oil pollution incident and the obligations and responsibilities of Member States in relation to oil reporting and contributions.
The event also highlighted the need for Member States to ensure the correct implementation of the Conventions and national legislation, the various tools and support available to delegates, and recent developments at the IOPC Funds, including anticipated topics for discussion during the upcoming meeting of the governing bodies.
The Induction Course, which has grown in popularity over the years, was fully subscribed, with 18 States represented.
