IOPC Funds participates in JIAMCATT
The IOPC Funds Secretariat was delighted to attend the Joint Inter-Agency Meeting on Computer-Assisted Translation and Terminology (JIAMCATT) in Brussels, Belgium from 30 March to 1 April 2026.
This is the first time that the IOPC Funds has actively participated in this event, which brings together multilingual organisations from across the world, including various UN and EU institutions. JIAMCATT provided a valuable opportunity for debate, the exchange of expertise, and enhanced cooperation in the fields of computer-assisted translation (CAT), terminology, interpretation, and documentation.
IOPC Funds’ External Relations and Conference Manager, Victoria Turner, and Associate Editor, Mariana Saúl, represented the organisation at this year’s event, which was organised around the theme “Language services reimagined: BrAInstorming the future.”
Hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee and the European Committee of the Regions, the event included various presentations by organisations sharing recent projects and the development of new tools and technologies in translation, interpretation and conferencing. Ms Saúl delivered a presentation jointly with one of the IOPC Funds’ external translators, Martín Chamorro, in which they discussed enhancing existing technologies with AI, focusing on the use of small and large language models in a CAT environment.
The event also included a project fair and workshop, both of which provided further opportunities to exchange experiences and identify areas for collaboration. This offered an excellent opportunity to learn from fellow organisations and to share the Funds’ own practices as a small Secretariat serving a large membership.
As an international organisation with three official languages, the IOPC Funds regularly reviews its internal practices, tools and use of technology in the delivery of all its communications, including meeting documents, website texts and publications. In addition to delivering texts in English, French and Spanish, the Secretariat must also be prepared to provide key claims guidance in local languages in connection with an incident and on occasion, where possible, for the purpose of Member State training or support. The IOPC Funds remains committed to ensuring all such communications are delivered in an efficient and timely manner, without compromising on quality.
