On 4 March, the IOPC Funds participated in the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) Marine Casualty Workshop in Bristol, United Kingdom. The workshop, which took place from from 3 to 14 March, was jointly organised by Ambipar Response, the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS) and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC). It brought together government officials from Sri Lanka, the Maldives, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh to strengthen regional collaboration and improve response to marine casualties.

IOPC Funds’ Claims Manager, Matthew de Plater, represented the organisation and delivered a presentation on the international liability and compensation regime for ship-source oil pollution. His session covered the various types of claims that can be submitted for compensation following an oil pollution incident, as well as the admissibility criteria applied by the IOPC Funds. The Claims Manager’s session also included an engaging Q&A session that offered participants a valuable opportunity to ask questions on a wide range of issues regarding the handling of claims.

The IOPC Funds is committed to promoting understanding of the international regime and to enhancing oil spill response and preparedness in Member States. The Secretariat is also available to provide support to national authorities and other stakeholders in this regard. To request further information, please contact externalrelations@iopcfunds.org.
