The IOPC Funds participated in an online event organised by the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) on 23 July 2024. Claims Manager, Ana Cuesta, delivered a comprehensive overview of the international liability and compensation regime for ship-source oil pollution, focusing on the role of the IOPC Funds. Her presentation touched on the different types of claims that can be submitted for compensation following an oil pollution incident and the general criteria applied by the IOPC Funds in determining their admissibility.

She also took part in a panel discussion on the topic “Managing the Aftermath of Oil Spills: Insights from Regulatory, Legal, and Insurance Experts,” during which she and other invited guests explored the challenges associated with the management of claims for compensation.

The event discussants included representatives from the SSA, Gard P&I, Spica Services and Boyd Marine Consultants, and Rajah & Tann, a law firm based in Singapore.
