The annual IOPC Funds’ Short Course took place from Monday 19 to Friday 23 November at the Funds’ headquarters in London. With 11 participants from 11 Member States of the 1992 Fund, the programme for the course, which was supported by INTERTANKO, the International Group of P&I Associations, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation Ltd (ITOPF), covered all aspects of the work of the IOPC Funds and the international liability and compensation regime in general. It included presentations from a variety of speakers, practical exercises allowing participants to study a theoretical incident and the subsequent claims submission process as well as visits to the IMO Headquarters, the offices of the International Group of P&I Associations and one of their members (The Standard Club), and a guided tour of the Lloyd’s building.
The Secretariat has received very positive feedback from participants and the Director is delighted with the success of the course again this year. The dates for the 2013 IOPC Funds’ Short Course and the deadline for nomination by governments will be announced in the new year.
