The annual IOPC Funds’ Short Course took place from Monday 25 June to Friday 29 June at the Funds’ headquarters in London.
This year’s course was attended by participants from fourteen 1992 Fund Member States, representing maritime administrations, oil companies, national coast guards and others. They were provided with a concise but comprehensive course covering all aspects of the work of the IOPC Funds and the international liability and compensation regime in general. The programme included presentations from a variety of speakers, practical exercises allowing participants to study a theoretical incident and the subsequent claims submission process as well as visits to the IMO Headquarters, the International Group of P&I Associations, the UK P&I Club, and a guided tour of the Lloyd’s of London building, courtesy of Miller Insurance Services.
The positive feedback received from participants confirms that the course continues to be a success and to prove useful in enabling the Secretariat to connect with both delegates to Funds’ meetings and those government officials who have responsibility in areas of oil reporting and oil spill preparedness and response.
This year, the course was supported by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Group of P&I Associations, the UK P&I Club, the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation Ltd (ITOPF), the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and INTERTANKO.
The dates for the 2019 IOPC Funds’ Short Course and the deadline for nomination by governments will be announced later this year.
