The annual IOPC Funds Short Course took place from Monday, 27 June to Friday, 1 July at the Funds’ headquarters in London.

This year’s course was attended by participants from 13 Member States of the 1992 Fund, representing maritime administrations, national coast guards and others, with three Member States participating in the course for the first time.

Participants were provided with concise but comprehensive training which covered all aspects of the work of the IOPC Funds and the international liability and compensation regime. The programme included presentations from various speakers from the Secretariat and other organisations,  practical exercises allowing participants to study a theoretical incident and the subsequent claims submission process. Visits were also organised to the IMO headquarters, the International Group of P&I Associations, and the Standard Club. A guided tour of the Lloyd’s of London building was also organised courtesy of the International Group.

The positive feedback from participants confirms that the course continues to be a success and proves useful in enabling the Secretariat to connect with delegates to Funds’ meetings and government officials who have a responsibility in the areas of oil reporting and oil spill preparedness and response.

This year, the course was supported by IMO, the International Group, the Standard Club, INTERTANKO, ITOPF and ICS.

The dates for the 2023 IOPC Funds Short Course and the deadline for nomination by governments will be announced later this year.
