The fifth session, entitled “Roles and Responsibilities in an Incident”, marked the launch of the Module on “Claims for compensation” within the IOPC Funds’ webinar series. It took place on 27 March 2024.

Chiara DellaMea, Senior Claims Manager, delivered an informative 15-minute presentation on the roles and responsibilities of the key stakeholders, including government bodies, shipowners, experts, and others, in an oil pollution incident. She emphasised the crucial role of the IOPC Funds at different stages of an incident to ensure prompt and efficient compensation for those affected by the pollution. She underscored the importance of collaboration, effective communication, and cooperation between parties to improve response efforts and facilitate the handling of both the incident and claims for compensation.

The event was delivered twice in order to give participants from different time zones more flexibility to attend. Following each presentation, Ms DellaMea answered a range of questions from the audience.

The IOPC Funds have been delighted with the response to the webinar series, which is open to any interested party. Participants can opt to attend either the full series or only those webinars of particular interest to them. The full programme, available here, covers a range of subjects. The next session under the Claims for compensation module, titled “Key Steps to a successful claim”, will take place on 15 May 2024.  To register for this event, please complete the online registration form, selecting your preferred time slot.
