IOPC Funds visit Gard P&I Club headquarters

On 19 and 20 September, the Director, José Maura, visited the headquarters of the Gard Club in Arendal, Norway, and met with Gard’s management team, headed by Gard’s CEO, Rolf Thore Roppestad. Gard is the biggest protection and indemnity insurer in terms of tonnage covered among the International Group of P&I Associations. The Director was accompanied by the Head of the Claims Department, Liliana Monsalve, and the 1992 Fund Assembly Chairman, Gaute Sivertsen. The visit was an excellent opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the Gard Club and the IOPC Funds, which will assist in ensuring both the Funds and the Club are prepared for any major spill that may occur involving a vessel insured by the Gard Club.
During the visit it was agreed that the IOPC Funds would conduct a claims workshop for the Gard Club in the near future.
