The brand new IOPC Funds’ webinar series was successfully launched on Wednesday 18 October 2023 with the first session: “Understanding the Conventions – An introduction to the regime”.

Deputy Director and Head of Claims, Liliana Monsalve, delivered this first session, providing an overview of the international liability and compensation regime to a large and varied audience.

Following her 15‐minute presentation, Ms Monsalve held a 15-minute Q&A session, which led to a wide range of questions highlighting the broad interests and backgrounds of the audience. This first event attracted participants from governments, industry, insurers, fellow maritime-related organisations, lawyers, oil spill response experts and more, representing a global audience.

The IOPC Funds is delighted with the positive response to this first webinar and looks forward to the upcoming series of events as an opportunity to further broaden its audience and increase awareness of the compensation regime and the important work of the organisation.

The webinar series, which is being delivered initially in English only, is open to any interested party and participants can opt to attend either the full series or only those webinars of particular interest to them.  Divided into four modules the full programme (available here) consists of a total of 11 webinars covering everything from the basic understanding of the Conventions to the financing of the system, the types of claims that arise from tanker incidents and the claims submission process.

The next session in the series “Understanding the Conventions – What should be included in your domestic legislation?”

Each session will be delivered at two different times to facilitate participation from various time zones.
