IOPC Funds welcomes students from the University of Deusto

The IOPC Funds were pleased to welcome a group of 35 students from the University of Deusto to its offices in London on 7 May 2025. The visit is organised annually by the University for the benefit of its students who are studying for a Master’s Degree in Maritime Law.
Claims Manager, Ana Cuesta, gave a comprehensive overview of the work of the IOPC Funds and the legal framework behind the international liability and compensation regime for oil pollution damage. She covered the types of claims covered under the 1992 Civil Liability and Fund Conventions, the admissibility criteria applied by the IOPC Funds and discussed some of the incidents currently involving the organisation.
The presentation was followed by an interactive session during which the students asked a number of questions.
The IOPC Funds is committed to sharing knowledge and raising awareness about the international liability and compensation regime. Each year, the organisation extends support to educational institutions by delivering lectures to university students, helping them gain a deeper understanding of the pertinent Conventions.
