National Liability and Compensation workshop

At the invitation of the Panama Maritime Authority, the IOPC Funds ran a two-day workshop on the international liability and compensation regime for tanker spills from 22 to 23 February 2018, in Panama City. The Director and the Head of Claims gave an overview of the legal framework and delivered presentations on the contribution system applicable to the receivers of contributing oil in the Republic of Panama. The workshop also gave the Secretariat an opportunity to address the implementation of the international Conventions into the domestic legal system. During that trip, a meeting was also organised with the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority, Mr Jorge Barakat Pitty.
