National workshop on the international liability and compensation regime, Helsinki, Finland

At the invitation of the Ministry of Environment, Finland, the IOPC Funds, in cooperation with the International Group of P&I Associations and ITOPF, ran a national workshop on the international liability and compensation regime from 2 -3 December 2014 at SYKE, the Finnish Environment Institute in Helsinki.
The workshop attracted 40 participants, comprising Coastguard, Navy, Regional Fire Services, Ministry of the Environment, the University of Applied Sciences and the Environment Protection Department.
It included presentations on the legal framework of the international liability and compensation regime, the role of P&I Clubs and other ship-source pollution compensation regimes, oil fate and effects and response options, clean-up claims, property damage and tourism claims, environmental damage claims and wreck removal claims.
