North of England P&I Club Claims Workshop

On 22 November 2017, the Director and the Head of the Claims Department were invited to run a claims workshop by the North of England P&I Club, Newcastle, UK.
In the morning, participants were introduced to an oil spill scenario involving both a P&I Club and the 1992 Fund. They discussed the key steps taken directly after notification of a major oil spill and throughout the incident. Focus was given to the importance of cooperation between the IOPC Funds and the P&I Clubs for the benefit of the victims ensuring that compensation is paid as promptly as possible.
The afternoon session targeted a different audience and the Director and the Head of the Claims Department presented the role of the IOPC Funds as well as the liability and compensation regime.
Both presentations were well received and gave rise to interesting discussions from the participants.
