PEMSEA Regional Workshop on Claims and Compensation for Oil Pollution from Ships
Claims Manager, Chiara DellaMea and Claims Administrator, Chrystelle Collier participated, together with ITOPF and the International Group of P&I Associations, in a regional workshop on claims and compensation for oil pollution from ships, held from 20 to 22 April.
The online training was organised by PEMSEA (Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia) for the benefit of States in the Gulf of Thailand. Focusing on the international liability and compensation regime for oil spills from tankers, the workshop aimed to raise awareness and strengthen knowledge of the compensation process, including the preparation and submission of claims for oil pollution damage following a spill.
Around 50 participants from PEMSEA partner countries, including Cambodia, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as from the PEMSEA Network of Learning Centres and Local Governments, attended the training. The event was an excellent opportunity to engage discussions at an international level and address cooperation between neighbouring countries.
