The IOPC Funds were delighted to present to the members of the International Group of P&I Associations Pollution Sub-Committee on the occasion of its autumn meeting on Wednesday 7 December 2022.

The Committee is one of many established by the International Group to examine on behalf of the membership of the clubs in the Group, the impact of problems which are common to all shipowners.  The members of this particular sub-committee include a number of club representatives and experts in the field of marine pollution with whom the IOPC Funds have many shared interests and goals.

The Director, Gaute Sivertsen, took the opportunity to introduce himself to the Committee members and to say a few words about implementing his vision for the organisation since taking up his position in January 2022;  the Deputy Director, Liliana Monsalve, shared her lengthy claims-handling experience and compared the management of an incident by the IOPC Funds and by the P&I Clubs; and Senior Claims Manager, Chiara DellaMea presented on the joint handling by the 1992 Fund and the Skuld Club of the Hebei Spirit incident, which occurred 15 years ago to the day of the meeting.

The International Group of P&I Associations also took the opportunity to present the cooperation agreements in place between the two organisations in relation to response and joint claims settlement procedures following pollution incidents.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange experiences gained through the handling of incidents and to strengthen ties between the International Group of P&I Associations and the IOPC Funds in the event of a future significant ship-source oil spill involving the two organisations.
