Regional Workshop on HNS preparedness and response Bangkok, Thailand

Mr Thomas Liebert, Head, External Relations & Conference Department participated in an IMO-Sponsored regional workshop on HNS preparedness and response, held in Bangkok, Thailand from 26-28 March 2012. The workshop was attended by 40 participants from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, all representatives of their national Marine Department, Maritime Administration or Coast Guard.
Mr Liebert presented on the international legislation applicable to HNS, including the OPRC-HNS Protocol and the HNS Convention. He also gave a presentation on potential claims criteria for HNS compensation and provided assistance during group discussions on ratification and implementation of the Conventions in the participating countries.
