SOPF 30th anniversary celebration

The IOPC Funds were delighted to participate in an event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Canadian Ship-source Oil Pollution Fund (SOPF) in Ottawa on 28 May 2019.  In Canada, claims for pollution damage can be submitted directly to and are paid by SOPF who can recover from the shipowner’s insurer and the IOPC Funds .  SOPF has worked closely with the IOPC Funds throughout the last 30 years, and the Director of the Funds delivered a special presentation during a panel session on the particular contribution Canada and SOPF have had to the international liability and compensation regime. A number of senior officials from Transport Canada and former Administrators of SOPF were present. The event was followed by a reception hosted by Minister of Transport, Mark Garneau.
