The IOPC Funds participated in Spillcon, the international oil spill conference for the Asia‑Pacific region, which took place in Perth from 2-6 May 2016.
Keeping with its theme – Global, Regional, Local – Spillcon 2016 brought together local, regional and global environmental and shipping representatives across industry, governmental and non-governmental organisations. The conference programme covered a wide range of topics including cause and prevention, preparedness, response management and environmental issues.
The Director chaired a conference session during the event relating to international trends in maritime environmental emergencies and also presented on the recent developments in the IOPC Funds’ regime. The Secretariat also had an exhibition stand at the event which facilitated the distribution of informative materials and discussions with interested delegates on an individual basis on the role of the IOPC Funds, the relevance of the admissibility criteria set out in the Claims Manual when responding to a spill, as well as the importance of the 2010 HNS Convention.
