Transboundary Oil Spill Liability and Compensation Workshop, Ottawa, Canada

The Head of the Claims Department, Ms Liliana Monsalve, participated in a transboundary oil spill liability and compensation workshop from 1517 November 2017 in Ottawa, Canada.
Organised by the United States and Canadian Governments in collaboration with industry representatives, the aim of the workshop was to identify strategies for mitigating issues related to liability and compensation during transboundary oil spill responses.
Over the three days, participants shared lessons learned from previous experiences and discussed key potential challenges of transboundary oil spill response. Ms Monsalve provided input based on the IOPC Funds’ experience of handling various incidents affecting more than one Member State and in particular shared her experience on handling claims.
