IOPC Funds’ Director, Mr Gaute Sivertsen, was pleased to welcome the Republic of Korea’s Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, Mr Chun Jae-Soo, to the organisation’s London offices on 28 November 2025. The Minister was accompanied by the Director General of the Maritime Affairs and Safety Policy Bureau, Mr Choi Seongyong, and other senior officials from the Ministry.

The Director took the opportunity to provide an overview of the IOPC Funds’ role and structure, as well as the legal framework underpinning the international liability and compensation regime for oil pollution damage. He outlined the types of claims covered under the 1992 Civil Liability and Fund Conventions and explained the criteria applied when assessing their admissibility.

The Republic of Korea, a Member State of both the 1992 Fund and the Supplementary Fund, plays an active role in the work of the organisation.

Mr Sivertsen expressed his appreciation to Minister Jae-Soo for the visit and acknowledged the Republic of Korea’s long-standing support and continued engagement with the IOPC Funds.
