Visit by students from the University College of Ghent

On 2 March 2023, Chief of Finance, Claire Montgomery and Claims Manager, Mark Homan, were delighted to welcome 40 students studying Finance and Risk Management from the University College of Ghent, Belgium. The visit, which takes place each year, is a welcome opportunity to enhance students’ awareness of the international liability and compensation regime.

Mr Homan presented an overview of the role of the organisation and how it operates, before handing over to Ms Montgomery to provide an in-depth presentation on contributions and the financing of the IOPC Funds. The session concluded with a discussion on the challenges facing the IOPC Funds, including reference to the effects of sanctions; the issues arising from ongoing incidents; and developments relating to the entry into force of the 2010 HNS Convention.

The IOPC Funds is always happy to share knowledge, promote awareness of the international compensation regime and support a number of educational institutions each year by giving lectures to university students to enhance their understanding of the relevant Conventions.  For further information, please contact externalrelations@iopcfunds.org.
