On 27 November, IOPC Funds’ Director, Mr Gaute Sivertsen, welcomed the Director General of Sea Transportation at Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation, Mr Muhammad Masyhud, to the organisation’s London offices. The Director General was accompanied by other officials from the Ministry.

Indonesia, a former 1971 Fund Member State, has observer status with the IOPC Funds and was represented at the recent meeting of the governing bodies. The State is, however, not yet Party to the 1992 Fund Convention.

The Director provided an overview of the international liability and compensation regime, highlighting the role of the IOPC Funds, how the system is financed, and recent incidents. He outlined the types of claims admissible under the 1992 Civil Liability and Fund Conventions and the criteria applied in determining their admissibility. His presentation also focused on the benefits of joining the 1992 Fund and offered the Secretariat’s assistance with the necessary steps towards accession to and implementation of the 1992 Fund Convention.

Discussions during the meeting were positive, with both parties agreeing on the need to maintain continued engagement.
