On Thursday 16 June 2016, the Claims Department ran a claims handling exercise for a group of Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) staff at their base in Southampton. On Friday 17 June, the Director and a small team from the Secretariat joined the Claims Department at the OSRL base to participate in an informal information exchange session between the two organisations. The team met with CEO of OSRL, Mr Robert Limb and other members of the OSRL management team before taking part in a tour of the site, including the area containing the part of the oil industry’s global stockpile of dispersants which is kept in the UK.
OSRL also ran a small training and exercise on shoreline clean-up assessment techniques (SCAT) for the IOPC Funds staff. Among other subjects, the newly available jet aircraft capability for aerial application of dispersants was presented and the methodology for the calculation of rates for response equipment was discussed.
