Visit to Steamship Mutual P&I Club

The Director, José Maura and Head of Claims, Liliana Monsalve were invited to visit the London office of Steamship Mutual P&I Club on 23 January 2020.  They delivered a presentation on the international liability and compensation regime, the role of the IOPC Funds and more specifically, the claims handling process.

The Club and the Fund have worked in close cooperation in the past. Notably, Steamship Mutual was the insurer of the Erika, which broke in two off the coast of Brittany, France in 1999, spilling almost 20,000 tonnes of oil and leading to some EUR 129.7 million in compensation being paid by the Club and the 1992 Fund.
