Visit to Uruguay

The Director, José Maura, was invited to deliver two presentations on the international liability and compensation regime and the role of the IOPC Funds during a visit to Uruguay from 17 to 19 May 2018. At the invitation of the Uruguayan Association of Maritime Law (Asociación Uruguaya de Derecho Marítimo (AUDM)) and the Navy, the Director presented at the Navigation Centre (Centro de Navegación (CENNAVE)) in Montevideo. He also spoke at the Latin American Centre for Human Economy (Centro Latinoamericano de Economía Humana (CLAEH)), a university in Maldonado.
The Director also took the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Maritime Authority, the Commander of the Uruguayan Navy, Admiral Carlos Abilleira, and the Prefecto Nacional Naval, Rear Admiral Perez Arana (in the above photo with the Director). He also paid a courtesy visit to the oil and gas industry association known as ARPEL (Asociación Regional de Empresas del Sector Petróleo, Gas y Biocombustibles en Latinoamérica y el Caribe) where he met the Executive Secretary and other representatives.
