World Maritime Day Parallel Event and the 123rd Ocean Forum, Tokyo, Japan

The Director participated in the World Maritime Day parallel event held in Tokyo on 20 and 21 July 2015. Every year IMO celebrates the World Maritime Day parallel event which this year was celebrated in Tokyo. This year’s theme was "Maritime education and training”.
IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu stressed the importance of quality training and education for the world’s future seafarers and highlighted the need to attract young people to maritime professions.
The Director also took the opportunity to attend the 123^rd Ocean Forum on 22 July 2015 at the invitation of the Ocean Policy Research Institute, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (OSPRI-SPF). He made a presentation at the 123^rd Ocean Forum on importance of adequate implementation of the international Conventions in Member States.
