Webinar held for the Maritime Authority of Colombia

The IOPC Funds were invited to participate in an online event organised by the Maritime Authority of Colombia (DIMAR) on 28 September 2023.

Liliana Monsalve, Deputy Director and Head of Claims, presented a comprehensive overview on the international liability and compensation regime for ship-source oil pollution.  During her presentation, she highlighted that Colombia had ratified both the 1992 Civil Liability Convention and the 1992 Fund Convention, but it had not yet adopted the Supplementary Fund Protocol.  Ms Monsalve explained the different compensation limits available under these treaties.  She also covered the typical category of claim received and the criteria for a claim to be considered admissible within the IOPC Funds framework, including the vital role of proper documentation in expediting the compensation process.
