The Director, Gaute Sivertsen, was delighted to be invited back to the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden on 5 June 2023 to deliver a lecture to 50 students specialising in Maritime Safety and Environmental Administration (MSEA) and Maritime Law (MLP).

During the course of the morning, he covered the legal framework of the international liability and compensation regime, the role of the IOPC Funds and the challenges which the organisation is currently facing.  He also discussed other international conventions and national systems in place for marine pollution. Mr Sivertsen then held an open discussion session with the students, who represented, among others, the Coast Guard, Navy, and Maritime Administrations of several different States.

The WMU was established for postgraduate maritime and ocean education by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). As part of its efforts to enhance awareness and understanding of the international liability and compensation regime, the IOPC Funds regularly gives lectures to students of maritime law from WMU and various other universities.  For further information, please contact externalrelations@iopcfunds.org.
