At the invitation of Ipieca, IOPC Funds’ Director, Gaute Sivertsen, participated in a workshop for its Marine Spill Group in London, on 25 April 2024.

The workshop explored the risks associated with the transport of chemicals at sea and the response and regulatory mechanisms that need to be put in place to address them.

Director Sivertsen gave an overview of the 2010 Convention on the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS) by sea.

He provided a comprehensive overview and the current status of the Convention and the IOPC Funds’ role in the preparations for its entry into force. His presentation also explained the scope of the Convention’s application and related aspects such as the criteria for admissibility of claims and how the system will be financed.

Ipieca, founded at the request of the United Nations Environment Programme and based in London, is the global oil and gas association dedicated to advancing environmental and social performance across the energy transition.
