Director’s visit to Japan

On 20 February 2017, the Director, Mr José Maura, travelled with the Legal Counsel, Mr Kensuke Kobayashi, to Japan to meet with the Director-General and other officers of the Maritime Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. During his visit, the Director gave a presentation on recent developments of the IOPC Funds to an audience consisting of government officials, industry representatives and other key stakeholders. Mr Maura and Mr Kobayashi also took the opportunity to meet with Mr Makoto Harunari, member of the IOPC Funds’ Audit Body, with the Funds’ lawyers in Tokyo, with representatives of the Japanese Shipowners’ Association, the Petroleum Industry Marine Association of Japan, the Japan P&I Club and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance.
Later in the week, the Director and Mr Kobayashi paid a visit to the JX Nippon Oil & Energy Kiire Terminal Corporation in Kagoshima, the largest private crude oil storage terminal in Japan.
