Claims Manager, Mark Homan, and Claims Administrator, Ana Cuesta, participated in a training course on liability and compensation in Lisbon from 3 to 5 July 2018. The course, which was organised by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), was aimed at representatives from Member States of the European Union. Presentations were delivered by EMSA, the International Group of P&I Associations and the IOPC Funds.
The IOPC Funds provided the participants with an overview of the international liability and compensation regime and the provisions of the HNS Convention. In addition, the IOPC Funds and the International Group of P&I Associations ran an exercise for the participants to develop a practical approach to the interpretation and application of the 1992 Civil Liability and Fund Conventions and an understanding of the insurance issues that could arise after a maritime pollution incident.
