EMSA training course on liability and compensation

At the invitation of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), the IOPC Funds, in cooperation with the International Group of P&I Associations, delivered a two-day training course on liability and compensation in Lisbon, Portugal on 4 and 5 July 2019.

During day one of the course, Claims Manager, Mark Homan, provided an overview of the role of the IOPC Funds and the legal framework behind the international liability and compensation regime for oil spills, while the International Group delivered presentations relating to liability and compensation for other types of marine pollution damage.

The second day focused on admissibility criteria and the presentation of claims and included a number of practical exercises and case studies, including insurance issues.

This training was aimed at representatives of maritime administrations from the EU Member States and was well attended.
