The Director of the IOPC Funds, José Maura, and Head of External Relations and Conference, Thomas Liebert, participated in the 2018 Georgia International Maritime Forum which took place in Batumi between 11 and 14 September 2018. In addition to the Forum’s main event on Thursday 13 September, where the Director took part in a panel on the future of shipping, the programme also included a number of international meetings and workshops throughout the week. The event, which attracted representatives from over 50 countries, was opened by Prime Minister of Georgia, H.E. Mamuka Bakhtadze and the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Kitack Lim. Its aim was to raise awareness of the importance of shipping in the region and to facilitate dialogue among regulators and the industry on transport policy and ocean governance.
As part of the Forum’s programme, the IOPC Funds also participated in the delivery of a three-day IMO regional workshop on civil liability conventions attended by 11 States of the Black Sea and Caspian regions.
