As part of the second series of webinars organised by the Global Initiative for West, Central and Southern Africa (GI WACAF Project) on oil spill preparedness and response, the IOPC Funds participated, on 13 October 2021, in a webinar entitled “How to claim for compensation in case of an oil spill”.  The webinar was split into two sessions, the first in French and the second in English.

Claims Manager, Chiara DellaMea, and Claims Administrator, Chrystelle Collier presented on the admissibility criteria for claims for compensation arising from pollution damage both in the fisheries and the tourism sectors.  The presentation was also designed to introduce the key elements for best practices to facilitate claims submission, which can speed up the claims procedure.  ITOPF also participated in the webinar, providing an overview of the types of costs incurred in typical response activities to major incidents and the admissibility of environmental damage claims.  The webinar was followed by an interesting Q&A session.

Both the English and French webinar sessions were a great success with over 125 registrations from 46 countries across the globe.
