The annual IOPC Funds’ Short Course took place from Monday 15 to Friday 19 June at the Funds’ headquarters in London and was supported by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Group of P&I Associations, Gard Club, the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation Ltd (ITOPF) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS).
Thirteen participants from thirteen 1992 Fund Member States took part in this week-long event which covered all aspects of the work of the IOPC Funds and the international liability and compensation regime in general. The programme included presentations from a variety of speakers, practical exercises allowing participants to study a theoretical incident and the subsequent claims submission process as well as visits to the IMO Headquarters, the International Group of P&I Associations, Gard P&I Club, and a guided tour of the Lloyd’s of London building, courtesy of Miller Insurance Services.
Once again the Short Course has received very positive feedback from this year’s participants and the Director is delighted that the Short Course is proving to be a valuable tool which enables the Secretariat to connect with both delegates to Funds’ meetings and those government officials who have responsibility in areas of oil reporting and oil spill preparedness.
The dates for the 2016 IOPC Funds’ Short Course and the deadline for nomination by governments will be announced later this year.
