Lecture to the ITLOS Nippon Programme 2014-2015 Fellows

On the 18 February 2015, the Legal Counsel gave a lecture at the IOPC Funds’ offices to the ITLOS Nippon Fellows, who are participating in the dispute settlement training programme organised by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) and supported by the Nippon Foundation. The Legal Counsel introduced the legal framework of the international liability and compensation regime and the governance structure of the IOPC Funds. The recent topics considered by the Funds’ governing bodies, such as the definition of ‘ship’, implementation of the 1992 Civil Liability and Fund Conventions into national law and the winding up of the 1971 Fund were also touched upon. The lecture was followed by a group discussion on the topics presented.
