REMPEC meeting, Malta

The IOPC Funds attended the 11th Meeting of Focal Points of the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) in Malta on 15-17 June 2015. The meeting discussed and agreed the proposed programme of work of REMPEC for the biennium 2016-2017 as well as the next five-year strategy (2016-2021) for prevention and response to marine pollution from ships in the Mediterranean.
The IOPC Funds’ Head of External Relations and Conference, Mr Thomas Liebert, presented a document providing information on the latest developments in the field of compensation for ship-source pollution damage and the implications for the Mediterranean coastal States of these developments. The meeting was attended by official Governmental Focal Points for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) as well as representatives from relevant United Nations Organizations, other Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations, the shipping industry and international professional organizations and associations.
