Visit by representatives of the Attorney General’s Office of Indonesia
The IOPC Funds welcomed a delegation of 10 representatives from the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia on 19 November 2018. Having to deal with the legal aspects of pollution incidents as State Attorneys, that delegation was keen to widen their knowledge of the international liability and compensation regime for tankers and specifically the role of the IOPC Funds.
Indonesia is a former 1971 Fund Member State and has ratified the 1992 Civil Liability Convention. However, it is not yet a Party to the 1992 Fund Convention, although it has maintained observer status with the IOPC Funds and was present at the recent meeting of the governing bodies. The Secretariat took the opportunity to highlight the benefits of ratifying the 1992 Fund Convention and offered its assistance with issues relating to ratification and implementation of the Convention.
