The Director was pleased to welcome Mr Shigeru Kikuchi, General Manager of the Petroleum Industry Marine Association of Japan (PIMA) to the IOPC Funds’ office on 21 March 2023.

As an association which coordinates several importers of oil in Japan, PIMA is one of the most significant contributors to both the 1992 Fund and the Supplementary Fund.  It therefore has a substantial interest in the work of the organisation. It works closely with the Japanese Government and regularly attends meetings of the IOPC Funds’ governing bodies as part of the Japanese delegation.  The Secretariat is often in contact with the Association, providing information and responding to enquiries.

Mr Kikuchi and Mr Sivertsen took the opportunity of meeting in person to discuss recent developments in incidents currently involving the IOPC Funds as well as recent decisions relating to the levying of contributions and other related matters. They discussed the current challenges facing the organisation and reaffirmed their commitment to working together and keeping one another updated on areas of mutual interest.
