The IOPC Funds Director, Gaute Sivertsen, has joined the International Maritime Organisations’ (IMO) Secretary-General Kitack Lim in expressing his sincere condolences to the members of the Royal Family, the Government, the people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Commonwealth of Nations, following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“The IOPC Funds and the Secretariat are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty lived an extraordinary life of devoted and steadfast service, which will long remain an inspiration to us all.”

The United Kingdom is the Host State of the IOPC Funds and has housed the organisation through its Headquarters’ Agreement since the establishment of the first IOPC Fund in 1978.  As recently as 2018, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II marked the seventieth anniversary of the IMO by visiting the building, where the IOPC Funds’ offices are also based. Her Majesty unveiled a commemorative plaque and took the time to meet guests attending the event, including the former Director of the IOPC Funds, José Maura.  It was a very special occasion for everyone participating or observing and the Secretariat will certainly remember the sincere interest that Her Majesty showed during the visit.
